Husband and wife duo Jose Lopez and Joanna Teters, better known as The JoJos, have released “Unturned Stone,” their debut ten-song album of soul, rock and Americana-tinged original works. Written primarily in the living room of their Brooklyn, NY apartment in the throes of the 2020 pandemic and later recorded, produced and mixed in partnership with Sean Walsh of the National Reserve, this record heavily features Teters’ soulful vocals and Lopez’s rock guitar stylings.

The songs grapple with themes of grief and loss, love and relationship, social justice and action, and Lopez’s textured and thoughtfully-crafted solos and songwriting perfectly complement Teters’ poetic lyrics and impressive vocal range. In the creation of “Unturned Stone,” The JoJos drew on Walsh’s prowess in the arranging, recording and mixing process to evoke the nostalgia of the Stax Records era while honoring the contemporary and varied styles of each work. The songs come together to create a powerful collection of captivating and moving performances, often punctuated by horns, background vocals or pedal-steel guitar.
